Parts for Vaayar

Vaayar develops technology for smart vehicles.

They came to us needing a visual way to present that technology at exhibitions.

We were glad to help them model the vehicle and, of course, print it in FDM. It is straightforward filament printing, but with the model split sensibly and the joints hidden, the result came out good and clean for what it cost.

The technology and the material

The project was printed in FDM – fused filament fabrication, where the part is built from layers of melted filament. It is the most accessible technology in cost per volume, which makes it the right choice for large display models where mechanical strength matters less than size and price.

The standing challenge with FDM is sharp angles and visible joints. The answer is engineering rather than technology: split the model sensibly and hide the bonds. See all the printing technologies we run.

A model that explains a technology

Deep-tech companies have a standing marketing problem: their product is an algorithm or a chip, and there is nothing to show. A physical model solves exactly that – it gives a visitor at the stand something to look at and point to, and it makes it possible to explain where the technology actually sits inside the vehicle.

Why we chose 3D printing

  • Small quantity – tens of units, not thousands. An injection mould does not pay for itself at that volume.
  • Timescale – days to weeks, rather than months for tooling.
  • Room to change – the file can be corrected and a new version printed without starting development again.
  • Geometric complexity – shapes that cannot be milled or cast come straight off the printer.
